Hepl us support UK Christian Aid Week 13 – 19 May 2012

We are supporting Christian Aid Week at church by talking to the children and young people at Toddlers Club & Sunday Bible Club.  If an envelope comes through your letter box please consider giving some cash to help people develop their standard of living.

The old saying has a lot of truth in it ~~ ‘ GIVE A MAN A FISH AND YOU FEED HIM FOR A DAY ~~~~~ BUT ~~~
IF YOU TEACH HIM TO FISH YOU FEED HIM FOR LIFE!!’    ( And his family !! )

Google search ‘Christian Aid Week 2012 ‘ for more details . Many thanks, BARRY

PLEASE SAVE OUR HEDGEHOGS!!

Why? Because they have declined by 25% in the last ten years in the UK.

If you see a young one in the summer, look after it by putting it in a box with a hot water bottle in bottom covered with a cloth and call your nearest Hedgehog rescue centre and await collection by experts who will care for it and  eventually release it into the wild when healthy.

We can all help hedgehogs as they move upto a mile at night in search of worms etc. We can make holes at bases of  fences etc . We can feed them, NOT ON MILK, but with meat based cat / dog food. Also we can build shelters for them in gardens.

See http://www.hedgehogstreet.org for your hedgehog street pack.

***********************PLEASE HELD YOUR LOCAL HEDGEHOGS!!  ++++++++++++++++

SIGNS OF UK SPRING

Signs of UK Spring:-

We have seen a Bullfinch in our garden, 22/4/12 and a broken hedge sparrow blue egg + robins nest building.

In the middle of March 2012 we found a lot of frogs’ spawn. Leanne brought some into Toddlers Club on 21 March. We  put some into the Christ Church Nelson UK little ponds. They have hatched  and are  swimming  around . They were firstly  herbivores, eating small plants & algae. Now they are carnivores eating animals & meat / bacon which we put in the little ponds.

We have seen many UK spring flowers in gardens, countryside  & parks including : snowdrop, crocus, daffidil, primula. periwinkle, hyacinth, tulip, crab apple, forest flame, forsythia, black thorn, coltsfoot, dandelion, daisy,  flowering currant ( pink & red ) , lungwort, grape hyacinth,  winter pansy, winter jasmine,  wallflower, heather ( white & pink ) , mahonia, cowslip, lesser celandine, cherry, rhododendron, azalea, wood anemone, primrose, shepherd’s purse, dog violet, gorse, blue bell,  honesty plum, flowering cherry  and a lot more. Let me know via twitter @BarryBnd ones you see in UK spring!!

Large trees are coming into bud in the UK  including : horse chestnut, sycamore, beech, silver birch, ash.

Saying ~ ‘Oak before Ash there will be a splash;       Ash before Oak there will be a soak!!’  North UK 2012 Ash is out first, so watch out for lot of Summer rain!!

SUNDAY 4 MARCH  10 30 am took the Service at  St Peter’s Methodist Church EARBY in the Pendle Methodist Circuit on the parable of the mustard seed with the help of Rachel Garnett who gave the children’s talk , the Bible reading & the prayers of intercession.  26 attended the uplifting service including 3 children & 3 young people who have just been confirmed members of the Methodist Church. We said goodbye to Jack after 90 years at St Peter’s. He is moving to be nearer to his son in Barnard Castle. Two members are interested in investigating the possibility of opening a St Peter’s website after I told them about this site!!

Welcome to my fairly new eco & church web site!

Look out for eco friendly tips & church news.                                   Snowy Pendle Hill with sheep feeding.

There are plenty of eco activities to consider in the UK SRING whilst plants & trees are bursting open their buds.

Leave plenty of logs and twigs around gardens for animals to shelter in  the cold weather of the northern hemisphere.

KEEP FEEDING THE BIRDS DAILY. Leave bird food in different places in the garden to attract different sizes & species. Avoid bread at this time as it can choke young birds fed by parents.
The above photo is of Pendle Hill in snow in distance , 3 pm 4 March 2012 with sheep at feeding station in cold weather!
